Ridership forecasting
How many riders, and when.
The model projects how many people will board, by route and by hour, so service can be matched to demand.
Passenger counts show how full each bus was. Fare records show when people paid. Together they give a history of demand detailed enough to project forward.
Planners use forecasts like this to decide where to add trips, and where a smaller vehicle would do.
